Residents often enjoy the Park Forest Aqua Center, which offers swimming pools with water slides, and outdoor recreational opportunities are available at nearby Central Park and the Sauk Trail Woods, otherwise known as the Cook County Forest Preserve.

Summers in Park Forest are generally hot with high humidity, and temperatures will exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit for about three weeks per season. This region of the state often experiences severe weather that is typical of the Midwest, including dangerous thunderstorms during the summer and fall months. When this severe weather and high temperatures move into the area, Park Forest residents are thankful to have a reliable air conditioning system available to keep them safe and comfortable.

Later in the year when the fall turns to winter, Park Forest residents will turn off their air conditioning systems in favor of a furnace. Winters tend to be quite cold, with daily highs only reaching the upper-20s. Overnight temperatures are frigid, and there will be some days where the thermostat will stay below zero.
